Are you ready to End your Childhood?

Childhood's End is a science-fiction novel by Arthur C. Clarke, the guy who wrote such genre classics as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Rendezvous With Rama. Published in 1953, it follows the arrival of an alien race known as the Overlords, who bring peace, prosperity and all the stuff we can't seem to manage on our own … though what do they want in return? Nothing good, probably.

The book has had several film and television adaptations in development over the years, with Stanley Kubrick expressing interest at one point (he opted to do 2001 instead) and Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce attached to a possible incarnation in 2002.

None of those big- or small-screen adaptations ever came to pass … until now!

Childhood's End is now a Syfy miniseries event! Check out the trailer below, which features the ominous voiceover of Charles Dance as Karellen, the Supervisor of Earth, and an ever-escalating sense of apocalyptic dread. Do the Overlords really come in peace? Probably not …
