Syfy Alum Anton Yelchin Dies at 27

The young star of Star Trek and Syfy's Taken died in a car accident early Sunday morning.

Anton Yelchin, the young star of Star Trek and Terminator Salvation, died early Sunday morning. He was 27.

Per our editors at Blastr, TMZ broke the news of his death, which reportedly occurred when the actor was somehow penned between his own car and a brick mailbox attached to a security gate. The car was in neutral but sitting on a steep slope. He was reportedly found dead at the scene.

Anton Yelchin is probably best known for his portrayal of Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek series. He also played a young Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation (2009), Charley Brewster in the remake of Fright Night (2011) and provided the voice of Clumsy Smurf in The Smurfs (2011) and The Smurfs 2 (2013). He recently received raves for his performance in the thriller Green Room (2016) opposite Patrick Stewart.

Anton is also a Syfy alum, having appeared in the 2002 miniseries, Taken.
