Are you familiar with the magic of The Magicians?
The Magicians is a best-selling fantasy series by Lev Grossman that follows students at Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, where the drama and decadence of college life takes on rather fantastical proportions. It's officially a trilogy, consisting of The Magicians (2009), The Magician King (2011) and The Magician's Land (2014).
What's even more magical about The Magicians is that Syfy will be adapting the series for television, with a 12-episode first season officially given the go last week. The merry magic makers over at BuzzFeed got the exclusive first look at the cast, which you can see below.
- Jason Ralph as Quentin Coldwater
Quentin Coldwater is the story's protagonist, a highly intelligent and socially awkward high school graduate from Brooklyn who gets accepted to Brakebills, where he finds that not only does he have to come to terms with his own mood swings and anti-social behavior but also mastering the art of magic. Oh, he also has to contend with an otherworldly horror known as The Beast (no relation to the creature in Poltergeist, at least as far as we know).
- Stella Maeve as Julia
Julia is a high school friend of Quentin's who wasn't accepted into Brakebills but learned magic independently.
- Hale Appleman as Eliot Waugh
Eliot is a member and the unofficial leader of The Physical Kids, a group of student magicians whose discipline involves manipulation of physical forces. He may be the most natural magician at Brakebills, though he's a bit of a drinker.
- Arjun Gupta as Penny
Penny enters Brakebills with Quentin and proves to be one of the three most adept magicians in that class, going on to study archaic and untested magic. He's rebellious and temperamental.
- Summer Bishil as Margo
Margo? Who's Margo? You know her as Janet Pluchinsky in the book, a member of The Physical Kids and the outspoken party animal of the group. Don't worry, Lev Grossman himself approves of the name change.
(For the record, the actress playing Quentin's love interest from the books, Alice Quinn, has yet to be announced.)
