Five Is Alive: Jodelle Ferland Keeps It Dark

The creepy kid from Silent Hill is now the coolest lady in outer space.

By Bryan Enk

She's the youngest member of the Raza crew, but Jodelle Ferland has been acting longer than almost any of her co-stars!

No stranger to the fantasy genre, Jodelle appeared in episodes of Dark Angel (2001) and The Lone Gunmen (2001) and had featured roles in such horror films as They (2002) and Deadly Little Secrets (2002) before delivering what many consider to be one of her finest performances to date: as Jeliza-Rose in Terry Gilliam's Tideland, a young girl who must fend for herself in a surrealist rural environment after her no-good father (Jeff Bridges) bites the dust.

After Tideland, Jodelle remained mostly in dark territory, appearing in Silent Hill (2006), Case 39 (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) and The Cabin in the Woods (2012). Now all grown up, she's taken on the role of Five, the mysterious tech expert whose noggin contains all the collective memories of her fellow amnesiac crew members.

She's definitely made her mark in the sci-fi/horror genres, but is she ever going to do, you know, a comedy?

"I have auditioned for a lot of comedic roles throughout my life. I auditioned for things of pretty much every genre but the darker sci-fi genre seems to keep pulling me towards it," said Jodelle in a recent interview with Talk Nerdy With Us. "I mean, when I was younger I did get typecast a lot. I was generally the creepy little girl. That's changing more now. I don't always have the exact same kind of role. Five isn't a character that I've ever played before. And you know, she is a little funny. The character has some humor to it. She's a little quirky. I always try to get diverse roles and it just ends up that the darker sci-fi roles keep pulling me towards them, which is fine because I absolutely love that genre."

And we love her in it!
