If you're a fan of Disney's Aladdin (and, really, who isn't?), then you probably found a lot to love in the Face Off genie challenge. Really, the artists conjured some mighty makeup magic this week, with Walter swinging for the fences and earning his much-deserved first win.
However, we weren't quite on the Rob train this week, even though the judges deemed the 20-year-old wunderkind to be the runner-up. We were bigger fans of Melissa's work, even though, thanks to the immunity granted by her Foundation Challenge win, she could've delivered a cheap Halloween costume and still been safe. Here's for going that extra mile when you don't have to!
Season 10, Episode 9: "Bottled Up"
Top Looks (Judges):
Our Top Looks:
Walter was really in his element (and in his lamp!) with this challenge, delivering a frightening and compelling dragon-genie from whom you'd think twice (thrice?) before requesting any wishes.
Gorgeous detail work. No wonder this hideous beast was being kept in a bottle!
Awesome silhouette provided by excellent cowl work. And dig those nails! "Um, no thanks, I don't want any wishes, Mr. Genie, sir ..."
Here's Walter and his creation performing some sort of joint magic spell. Beware!
The judges deemed Melissa's work to be Safe (whether they wanted to or not, as she had immunity n' all), but this was a Top Look in our book. At first glance from afar (Jafar?), this lady genie might seem comparatively simple and spare ...
... but get closer and you'll see the exquisite detail work Melissa did to incorporate the porous design of her lamp.
Get even closer and you'll be spellbound by this wish-granting beauty.
Excellent genie-making, Melissa!
- Honorable Mention: Robert
Before he was sent home, Robert made this genie cat lady for us. For the entire world, actually. And we are forever in his debt.
Next Week: Season 10, Episode 10: "Keep One Eye Open."
