Good (read: eerie) things come in 10s.

The 10th season of Ghost Hunters premieres tonight at 9/8c! To gear up for the new investigation at a Kentucky Distillery, we're taking a look back at the top 10 scariest investigations - zoos and insane asylums included - of seasons 1 through 10.

  1. Season 1, Episode 5 AND Season 2, Episode 3 (So eerie they had to investigate twice!) - Eastern State Penitentiary

This place is so haunted they called in TAPS not once, but TWICE! Each investigation left the team flabbergasted by the paranormal activity. Black masks floating in the air, whispers from cell blocks and an overwhelming feeling of dread were just part of what the gang encountered.

  2. Season 2, Episode 1 - Myrtle's Plantation

Did you ever see a lamp slide across a table by itself? If not, maybe you should fire up a re-run of the Myrtle's Plantation episode. Not even Grant and Jason could refute the owner's claim that this is the "most haunted place in America". (But, that WAS before they went to Gettysburg in Season 9…)

  3. Season 3, Episode 13 - Northern State Hospital

    GhostHunters_Blog_1001_03.jpg

This creeps-factory saw over 3,000 people cremated when it was in operation as an insane asylum. So when video footage of a transparent shape moving through the hallways was caught, there was nothing but shudders all around.

  4. Season 4, Episode 1 - Fort Mifflin

It was a Ghost Hunter's dream come true to be invited to investigate the famously haunted Ft. Mifflin, and the Philadelphia location did NOT disappoint!  Jason had to overcome his claustrophobic tendencies, but it was worth it in the end. The team caught thermal images of a figure walking, and an apparently thirsty ghost requested a glass of water!

  5. Season 5, Episode 19 - Briarhurst Manor

It's not easy to investigate a haunted manor when female voices keep talking over you. DISEMBODIED female voices, that is! The ghosts at Briarhurst Manor also have the gang running up and down stairs, chasing shadows and footsteps in this bone-chilling investigation!

  6. Season 6, Episode 12 - Philadelphia Zoo

There are cagey things happening at the Philly Zoo, where disembodied voices are keeping the animals up at night. The team has to brave underground tunnels (somebody give them a raise!) and multiple buildings that claim different haunts. The collection of audio footage caught during the investigation was enough evidence to terrify even the most seasoned scientists.

  7. Season 7, Episode 5  - Hotel Alex Johnson

This South Dakota hotel is so freaky that contractors have walked off the renovations job and refused to return. (Could it be the ghost of the bride that committed suicide in her room?)  Whatever it is, this ghost is a little aggressive- pushing Amy in the head and blowing on Jason and Grant.

  8. Season 8, Episode 13 - Old City Jail

When a serial killer's ghost is looking for revenge, most people would want to stay out of the way. But the Ghost Hunters run towards the danger, as always. But it was their unsuspecting camerawoman, a non-believer, who was scratched during the investigation. That'll teach you to believe!

  9. Season 9, Episode 9 - Amber Jones' House

Why are antique photos of little girls so unbelievably creepy? In this case, it doesn't help that the children in the pictures died in the house on the same day and now haunt the creaky old home. Plus, there was a murder there! Amy Bruni gets scared to her very core, but manages to get the ghosts to play the flashlight game like she's never seen before.

  10. Season 10… well, the best of Season 10 still has yet to air so here's an extra from Season 9 for good measure…
    BONUS: Season 9, Episode 17 - Gettysburg

    GhostHunters_Blog_1001_10.jpg

Is there any place in America that has seen more blood shed than Gettysburg? This town made famous by the most gruesome Civil War battle is plagued by the ghosts, not only of soldiers gone, but the orphans they left behind. One of the most compelling pieces of evidence ever collected by the team was thermal footage of a figure walking outside!
