Harry Potter TV Show Getting Behind-the-Scenes First Look in HBO Special (Watch)

While HBO's Harry Potter television series doesn't premiere until the end of the year, the network is offering fans a magical sneak peek at the small screen adaptation in a behind-the-scenes special entitled Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic.

Scheduled to hit HBO Max this Sunday (April 5) at 3:00 p.m. ET, Finding Harry offers a look "at the epic scale and meticulous care behind HBO’s new Harry Potter series," reads the official synopsis, with a spotlight on "the artists, craftspeople, and technicians bringing J.K. Rowling’s beloved books to life for a new generation."

The summary continues: "Featuring interviews with members of the casting, production design, costume design, and creature effects teams, the special chronicles the extensive process behind finding our new Harry, Ron, and Hermione—while celebrating the awe-inspiring commitment to detail and immense talent that has come together to fill out this extraordinary world."

Cast member Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid) narrates the special, which features appearances from co-stars John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape).

"The Harry Potter stories are this extraordinary phenomenon," Lithgow says in the teaser below. "To reimagine the Harry Potter canon, to let it breathe. We get to enact all the things that you know are going on in the wings, but you don't see them...You wait forever to do something that means that much to people."

Showrun and executive-produced by HBO veteran Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials), the debut season will, of course, be based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout headline the fresh adaptation as the so-called "Golden Trio" of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. The ensemble comprises over two dozen actors, though only one—Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick)—is returning from the feature films.

Gardiner's fellow EPs include Mark Mylod (The Menu filmmaker is also directing several episodes), J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman.

Despite early assumptions, the show will not release new seasons every year for the next seven years, meaning we probably won't see Chamber of Secrets until 2028 at the earliest.

"For some of the bigger shows like Harry Potter or House of the Dragon, or The Last of Us, huge world-building shows, it would be nice to have those on an annual basis," HBO head honcho Casey Bloys recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "But from a production point-of-view, it’s just not possible. It’s not that everybody involved is just taking their time and sitting around. These shows are complicated to do."
