Since it's Halloweentime n' all, we thought we'd turn out the lights (and you should, too!) and conjure a list of the scariest episodes of Paranormal Witness (to date, anyway … Season 4 is still going strong).

How to Watch

Catch up on Paranormal Witness on Peacock or the SYFY app.

Bear witness below, listed in order of appearance.

  1. Haunted Highway/Kentucky UFO Chase (Season 1, Episode 2)

    ParanormalWitness_blog_scariest_episodes_01.jpg

Paranormal Witness wasted no time in bringing the terror, as the second episode of the very first season proved itself an instant classic. Taking place on the infamous Highway 50 near Sacramento, CA, "Haunted Highway" tells the tragic tale of Christine Skubish, a single mother who died in a car crash along the winding mountain road en route to her new life … and who may have served as a guardian angel for her young son, Nick, until the authorities found their vehicle.

  2. The Poltergeist/Watched in the Wilderness (Season 1, Episode 3)

    ParanormalWitness_blog_scariest_episodes_02.jpg

"The Poltergeist" features what may be the nastiest poltergeist ever (yes, even nastier than The Beast from the classic 1982 scarefest, Poltergeist), a cruel entity that delights in torturing single mother Susan Lewis and her young daughter Jamie in the loudest ways possible. Liquids go flying (coffee, milk, bleach, you name it), doors bang all night, toys scatter all asunder and a bunch of kittens wither and die from its filthy aura. Horrible!

  3. The Rain Man (Season 1, Episode 6)

    ParanormalWitness_blog_scariest_episodes_03.jpg

One of the most popular episodes of Paranormal Witness tells the bizarre tale of Don Decker, a young convict who became possessed by his abusive grandfather. This was a rather unique kind of possession, as it gave Don the ability to control water, a "trick" he used to both the amusement and terror of his fellow inmates and his warden. What Backdraft (1991) does for fire, "The Rain Man" does for water as it turns an element into a living, breathing — and dangerous — creature.

  4. Capitol Theater Haunting (Season 2, Episode 3)

    Behind You

We're suckers for haunted theater yarns. A place where countless stories have been told and emotions have run high and low and to and fro is bound to conjure some spiritual activity. And it's not always the nice kind.

  5. The Dybbuk Box (Season 2, Episode 4)

    No Longer Alone

Considered by many to be the most terrifying episode of Paranormal Witness of all time (again, so far), "The Dybbuk Box" will have you thinking twice before going into an antique store ever again. Or drinking wine. Or buying anything at all, really.

  6. The Apartment (Season 2, Episode 6)

    ParanormalWitness_blog_scariest_episodes_06.jpg

Perhaps the most unsettlingly intimate episode of Season 2, "The Apartment" follows poor Jodi Foster (note the lack of an 'e' in her first name, please) as she's plagued by stunningly visceral nightmares involving the torture of a young girl who may be trying to channel her revenge through the sleep-deprived single mom. Guaranteed to make you terrified of 3:37AM for the rest of your life.

  7. The Long Island Terror (Season 3, Episode 1)

    Playtime is Over

The first episode of Season 3 scored a lot of points for featuring one of the most relatable and sympathetic families to ever appear in the series. Jeanette Meyran must raise her two daughters by herself after her firefighter husband is killed on the job, prompting her and the girls to move from New York City to … the most haunted house on Long Island since that one in Amityville.

  8. The Wolf Pack (Season 3, Episode 9)

    Don’t Drop The Keys

Werewolves. Yes, werewolves. Awesome. And horrifying!

  9. The Visitors (Season 3, Episode 17)

    Proof

One of the most unique episodes of Paranormal Witness should delight fans of Clive Barker's short story, "The Yattering and Jack." Bill Vaile is a recently divorced water treatment system specialist whose house becomes overrun with what appear to be demonic little goblins (and at least one not so little), an invasion courtesy of a would-be customer who was performing an exorcism when Bill came calling to pitch his wares. "Put it back, he's coming!" Shudder.

  10. Demon House (Season 4, Episode 7)

    Look Under

The most terrifying episode of the current season (again, so far) features a demon that presses a woman stomach-down on the floor as it growls, "Look … under." And that's one of the more benign moments of the episode … that woman later gets possessed by the damn thing! (Or is it … damned thing?)
