Phoenix Comicon is now part of history, but one part of it will haunt me until my final days. At my first panel, “The Science of Science Fiction,” multiple-Hugo-award-winning author John Scalzi noted the stage was set up like a runway. Ty Franck—also a popular sci-fi author—engaged Scalzi in a series of dares that escalated quickly into a promise of a dollar if Scalzi walked the runway and sang, “Danke Schön.”
This is what happened next.
I believe the feedback is clear proof that gods exist, and they watch over those of us who sing a cappella.
Franck gave Scalzi a dollar, and the gods were appeased.
(N.B.: Yes, I know I held the phone the wrong way. I was in a hurry and panicked.)
