Jack Quaid did what?! The Boys Season 2 cast interviews
This week, The Boys are back in town! Amazon Prime's original series based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's darkly comedic superhero comic returns for its second season on September 4. And while the new season was completed before the ongoing pandemic, showrunner Eric Kripke told SYFY WIRE that the show still reflects what's happening in the real world.
"Any good genre is a metaphor for the real world," said Kripke. "The Boys has always been a show that will incorporate real-world events. When we were writing the show, things like the travel ban were happening, or the supposed caravan that was gonna come up from Mexico. So we were just really interested in how authority figures use racism and xenophobia to control the population. So that became a big theme this season."
This season, Aya Cash's Stormfront is joining The Seven, the largely evil Justice League analogue in the show. According to Kripke, Stormfront is going to shake things up on her new team.
"Stormfront really comes in as a disruptor, and she sort of represents new media," explained Kripke. "She's a star of social media. In a lot of ways, The Seven are dinosaurs. They're very much in the George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Julia Roberts level of old-school fame."
As for the Boys themselves, Jack Quaid found himself in a very unusual situation on the set.
"Terror, Butcher's dog from the comics, is in this season of The Boys in a bigger way," related Quaid. "For some reason or another, I was the only one in the room with the dog. The trainers couldn't be there. I had to convince this dog to hump this [stuffed] pig, and the dog's trigger phrase ... was the word 'boner.' This exists somewhere on camera: it's just me ... going up to this dog and going 'hey, hey, boner! Boner!' Holding out the [bleep]."
