Who Won the Week: Cyberpunk 2077's Johnny Silverhand vs. Archenemy's Max Fist
The middle of December rarely has enough entertainment news to rival Comic-Con. But this is 2020, and all bets are off. This week was particularly busy, and included the release of the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red spent years developing the tile, and even lined up Keanu Reeves to play a pivotal character in the game: Johnny Silverhand.
One of our favorite actors, Joe Manganiello, also had quite a week. He’s starring in the new movie Archenemy as Max Fist, a guy who may or may not be a superhuman from another world. Granted, it's not a major theatrical release. But what is, anymore?
That brings us to the week's next big development. Warner Bros. Pictures is sending its entire lineup of 2021 movies to HBO Max and cinemas simultaneously. That includes everything from The Suicide Squad and Dune to the new Mortal Kombat, Tom and Jerry, and several others. On one hand, HBO Max subscribers are happy, but theaters and Hollywood creators are not. Christopher Nolan was particularly outspoken about this development.
Finally, there were several developments out of Disney that couldn't be incorporated into our video. But trust us, they're all big. For example, Patty Jenkins is directing a Star Wars movie, Ahoska Tano is getting her own series, and so are Marvel's Nick Fury, War Machine, and Ironheart. Lots of casting news broke as well, but we're particularly excited by the new MCU Fantastic Four movie, which will be directed by Spider-Man: Homecoming's Jon Watts.
