The Expanse: Vox's Favorite Fall TV Show

Syfy's space opera is No. 1 on Vox's Best of Fall TV 2015 list.

The Expanse follows the case of a missing girl whose disappearance brings together a diverse and disparate group of characters in a race to uncover a conspiracy never seen before in human history. Oh, and it takes place hundreds of years in the future. That all said, this gallery will give you the who's who that you need to know.

First up is Julie Mao. She's the aforementioned missing girl. She's an heiress whose political sympathies lie with the disenfranched residents of the Asteroid Belt.

The Fall TV season is upon us, and with it many a Fall TV Preview listing the season's best and worst offerings.

And what's No. 1 on Vox's Best Of list? Syfy's own The Expanse.

"I didn't know I needed another space opera so much until I watched the thoroughly entertaining pilot for The Expanse, which somehow combines a private detective story, a politically deft tale of the build-up to war, and a bunch of sci-fi tropes into a big, intriguing stew," writes Vox.com's Todd VanDerWerff. "It's not yet Battlestar Galactica (what is?), but it's the closest any sci-fi show has come since that show left the air to capturing some of its charm."

The Expanse was highest on a list that also includes such high-profile offerings as Fox's The Grinder, The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, CBS's Supergirl and ABC's The Muppets. That's some good company!
