And so, the gang starts their quest. And Quentin tells us about the Legend of the Seven Keys. In cartoon. Turns out the gang from Brakebills has to go and find all seven keys but there are a lot of problems.
In order to get this done, the gang is gonna need one of the magic batteries Mayakovsky made. So Quentin, Josh, Julia, and Kady head to a Magicians bar where a bear (clearly Mayakovsky) attacked a bunch of people. Quentin goes to find his old friend Emily Greenstreet. She's always trouble. Oh and now she's married to Mayakovsky. Yep.
And so Eliot goes to see his boat - the Muntjac. Made of sentient trees, the boat has a mind of its own and a well-seasoned crew. Eliot is excited for the journey, but grows worried when he finds out the Fairy Queen has constructed a terrifying plan.
The Queen is sending along both Eliot's wife Fen and a new person: Fray, their grown-up daughter. Turns out in the Fairy world, people grow up faster. Eliot is freaked out but Fen is thrilled. The whole family is going on a quest together!
Back in our realm, Emily Greenstreet tells the team they need to seek a different woman, and so they head to places in the city where magic is happening. An elementary school where a dinosaur was conjured and...
A university where orgies keep magically breaking out…Julia and Quentin learn that Alice (who's now carrying a kitten everywhere) is hot on their trail as well. AND that a woman cast the spell. Who was it?
Meanwhile, on their quest for the keys, Eliot and Fen and Fray come across an island that's being terrorized by a flying monster. The priest who lives there uses a magic key to protect the people. Or does he?
Back on Earth, Quentin finds that Professor Lipton was the one who helped Mayakovsky make his magic batteries, and now that magic is gone, she's furious and has been doing magic across the city. Now suicidal, she drops the battery and it shatters. So much for that.
So now the team have no access to magic. AND, Alice's kitten exploded. Because the Lamprey was near. That's her insurance policy. Problem is, the gang is out of options magic-wise. But you know who else might have one? Emily Greenstreet.
Back in Fillory, Fray tells her father that it's clear the priest is a liar. Fen backs that plan up as the daughter of a blade-maker. And so Eliot takes the key and ruins the priest's reputation. The first key is gotten, six more to go.
