WARNING: If you don't want to know what happens in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
Quentin and team had a solid plan to kill Martin when they were foiled by JULIA! She stole their secret weapon and made The Beast promise to teach her how to kill a God (Reynard, probably?) and then vanished. Which leads us to Quentin desperately searching for help and coming upon…
A witch who lives in a gingerbread house with a lollipop garden. Cuz that always ends well. She agrees to help him out for the price of a vial of his blood. So they race back to the gang (who Quentin is preeetttty sure are all dead) to discover…
ALICE AND THE GANG ARE ALIVE! With her special abilities from drinking Ember’s -- god juice? (ew) - Alice came back to life and was able to revive her friends! But now what do they do when The Beast might still be after them?!
While the gang figures out their next move, The Beast and Julia find themselves in NYC having a ball (too easy, sorry)! Kinda. Julia draws up a contract that says that Martin has to help her, or get killed by the gang’s secret weapon.
Back in Fillory, the gang heads to Elliot’s wife’s house. (Remember that? Elliot married a Fillorian girl?) After consulting the Fillory and Further books, Quentin, Alice, and Elliot head to Castle Whitespire to find The Armory in hopes of finding knowledge to kill The Beast. Margo and Penny head to a magic river to reattach Penny’s hands, which were severed by The Beast. Ew.
Before they can be granted access to Castle Whitespire, our gang has to be crowned the kings and queens of Fillory, which happens in a remote part of the forest, that they don’t have a map of. Luckily, they have magic and cast a spell to help them find the spot.
Penny and Margo find the magic river and with the guidance of a magic river watching weirdo, reattach Penny’s hands. BUT when Penny cops attitude with the river helper, a spell is cast on the thread that joined Penny’s hands to his wrists… That can’t be good.
With hands reattached, Penny and Margo join the rest of the gang on their quest for coronation, which leads them to this dead-looking guy who guards the crowns of Fillory. He tests the gang with 90’s trivia to prove they are in fact children of Earth. The gang doesn’t do so great until…
That part where the river man put a spell on Penny’s hands and we said it wouldn’t be good? Well… after Penny realizes that he’s not in control of his saved hands, he decides to find the river man and apologize for his earlier rudeness.
WARNING! There WILL be feelings. Remember back when Quentin cheated on Alice with Margo and Eliot? Well, now that the gang has just been crowned as the monarchy of Fillory, it looks like Alice and Quentin might be ready to be friend’s again… or could it be more?
The search for Reynard is putting Julia through her paces and The Beast can sense it. He suggests she sever herself from her Shade, otherwise known as the part of her soul that makes her feel pain, but also allows her to love… Uh oh.
Meanwhile, Penny finds the river man and begs him to unspell his hands. The river man is unmoved by Penny’s pleading and warns him that “actions have consequences,” and alluding to the “position” that Penny will soon find himself in. What does he mean?!
The gang finds The Armory only to discover that it’s been ransacked. The only hope they find is a battle magic workbook which leads them to believe that they may find answers back at their old school, Brakebills! Unfortunately, as High King of Fillory, Eliot is unable to make the journey back to Earth with his buddies. #WompWomp
