WARNING: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
During his confrontation with the Beast, Quentin had his shoulder mostly severed, and is having it repaired by a group of centaurs. Also, they’re replacing it with wood. Also, they’re not totally sure he’ll ever wake up.
Eliot and Margo, meanwhile, are left with figuring out what to do with Fillory now that Alice is dead and Quentin is unconscious. Fillory has no money and the wellspring still isn’t repaired. Eliot is morose, but Margo has an idea and heads back to Earth.
Meanwhile, Julia has found a drug addicted Kady and helped her get clean. Julia talks her into helping with the plan to defeat Reynard – which involves bringing Marina back to life with the help of a book in the Brakebills library.
Julia breaks into Brakebills to get the book she needs to bring Marina back to life. And…she bumps into Margo. It’s a pretty great showdown where Julia tells her she’s shallow and Margo, somewhat agreeing, shows her true colors by helping Julia copy the book almost instantly.
DopEliot takes a quick break from partying at Fillory to meet up with a second year student. They decide they’re going to fool around. Bravo, DopEliot! Also, that's totally Jai from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
Instead, he ends up in a confusing mind-state where he’s jumping between his bodies. One of which is having sex with this wife. And the other of which is the dude from the party. He decides to just go with it.
Penny and Quentin set off to find the White Lady. As one of Fillory’s questing beasts, finding and capturing her grants the hunter a wish. Penny is going to get his hands back and Quentin is going to bring Alice back to life. The problem is, they end up in the flying forest. And um, super stoned.
So, quick update on what’s happening with magic lately – something is definitely going on. The students and teachers are experience “magic brown-outs.” Meanwhile, Dean Fogg offers to help DopEliot learn how to rule Fillory.
Julia and Kady manage to wake up Marina, who tells them that 40 years ago, a girl got Reynard out of this world and she was the key to the whole plan. And then, just as abruptly as she was brought back to life, Marina dies.
When Quentin and Penny finally do find the White Lady, she agrees to fix Penny’s hands, and then tells Quentin that she’s not able to bring Alice back to life. As Penny’s hands grow back, she does as Quentin asks, and sends him home to New York City.
