Assassins have the best job in latest trailer for The Umbrella Academy

We got another look at the gleefully subversive Netflix series The Umbrella Academy ahead of its premiere this Friday, Feb. 15, and it's still looking like the bizarro X-Men adventure we didn't know we needed.

The trailer hints of the pending apocalypse, as seen by Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), which can only be stopped by a group of semi-estranged superpowered siblings joining forces. As complicated as that all sounds, things get worse when they realize that a group of time-traveling assassins are out to stop them, led by the gleefully murderous Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige).

It's as wonderfully bizarre as it sounds.

In addition to her role as Cha-Cha, who really enjoys killing people, Blige also sings the cover of The Faces' "Stay With Me" playing in the background. So, the series is staying on-brand with both a look and soundtrack inspired by Wes Anderson films.

Based on the comic by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the series promises to lean heavily into the weirdness that's synonymous with the Dark Horse series. Early reactions from critics are praising its original approach to the superhero genre. Which is saying something because there have been a lot of clever takes on the superhero genre over the past few years.

The first series looks like it'll take elements from the comic's first two stories, Apocalypse Suite and Dallas. Rounding out the ensemble cast along with Gallagher and Blige are Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Cameron Britton, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Colm Feore, David Castañeda, Adam Godley, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh.

You can check out Umbrella Academy for yourself when it drops on Netflix this Friday, February 15.
