Black Panther and A Quiet Place score Producers Guild Award nominations, boost profile ahead of Oscars
The nominees for the Producers Guild Awards were announced today and, as you'd expect, Black Panther did extremely well, nabbing Kevin Feige a nomination for Outstanding Producer. Paramount's A Quiet Place was also recognized in the category, receiving nods for Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.
Not surprisingly, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Avi Arad, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg), Incredibles 2 (John Walker, Nicole Grindle), Ralph Breaks the Internet (Clark Spencer), The Grinch (Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy), and Isle of Dogs (TBD) will all be competing for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale snagged a nomination for Outstanding Producer of Drama, while The Good Place, GLOW, and Maniac were nominated in the Comedy category. Other TV hopefuls (for on-air/streamed movies and children's programming) include Fahrenheit 451, Sense8: Together Until the End, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sesame Street, and Teen Titans GO!
The two biggest snubs are Disney's Mary Poppins Returns and Damien Chazelle's First Man, both of which have secured a number of nominations from major award ceremonies like the Golden Globes and the Critics' Choice Awards. In addition, no female-directed movies made the Top 10 list of nominated features.
In recent years, the PGA has shown an affinity for genre fare, handing out nominations to the likes of Get Out, Coco, The Shape of Water, Deadpool, Arrival, Moana, Finding Dory, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, and Sesame Street.
The 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards will be held on Jan. 19 at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
