After making several successful LEGO Movies, it looks as though Warner Bros. Animation is now developing a Funko! movie. Over the weekend, reporter Daniel Richtman tweeted a photo of a board listing Warner Animation Group's slate of projects for the next three years. Among them, a movie based on the Funko Pop line of vinyl figurines and bobbleheads. (There’s also apparently a Jetsons movie in the works as well.)
Later, Slashfilm confirmed the news via an unnamed source. A representative from Warner Bros. Animation did not immediately respond to SYFY WIRE’s request for comment as of this writing.
Considering that Warner Bros. is straight-up printing money with its LEGO Movie franchise, it makes sense that the studio would develop another possible franchise based on a series of popular toys.
Very few details are available, but Richtman tweeted that Darth Vader, Deadpool, Hellboy, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Care Bears, and My Little Pony are “Some characters already confirmed for the Funko movie.” But, wait. If Deadpool and Wonder Woman are in the film, can we expect more DC and Marvel characters to interact? Could this be the Marvel/DC crossover event we’ve all been waiting for?
While we wait to find out more details on the Funko! movie, we can now enjoy the trailer for Among the Shadows, an upcoming Lindsay Lohan-led werewolf detective picture.
The good news? It’s got werewolves. It’s got Lohan (in her first film role in six years). It’s got a detective. The bad news? Lohan does not appear to be either the werewolf or the detective. We know, we know.
In Among the Shadows, Charlotte Beckett plays Kristy Wolfe (oh, come on … seriously?), a Brussels-based private eye descended from werewolves (get it?) who’s hired by Patricia Sherman (Lohan), the wife of European Federation President Richard Sherman, to find out who killed Wolfe’s uncle. Why Wolfe needs to be hired to investigate the murder of her own uncle is not made clear in the film synopsis or the trailer, so we guess we’ll have to find out that tidbit by seeing the movie for ourselves.
It’s … well, you know what? Check out the trailer for yourself.Among the Shadows will be available to stream on VOD platforms on March 5.
And finally, we’ve got a first look and details of Toy Story 4’s new and improved Bo Peep, courtesy of Disney’s Pixar Studios.
Woody, Buzz, and the gang have not seen their long-lost friend Bo Peep in years. So, when she and Woody are reunited, they realize they’ve grown worlds apart.
“Bo’s taken control of her own destiny,” said Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley in a statement. “While Woody was watching Andy grow up, Bo gathered dust until she took it upon herself to head out into the world. And when Woody shows up, they can’t believe that they’ve found each other again.”
Annie Potts, who returns as the voice of Bo Peep, added: “She is modern, independent, capable, and confident. Bo is written and conceived to be inspiring as she has weathered life’s ups and downs with grace. I aspire to that.”
Toy Story 4 plays in theaters (get it?) on June 21.
