'Doctor Strange: The Book of Vishanti' will prep you for 2022's 'Multiverse of Madness' (Exclusive)

The new book dedicated to the magical side of Marvel goes on sale from Abrams Books and Marvel Entertainment Tuesday, Dec. 14.

By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth! Prepare yourself for the Sorcerer Supreme's voyage through the Multiverse of Madness next year with an in-depth look at the magical side of the Marvel Universe. Portaling onto bookshelves tomorrow, Doctor Strange: The Book of Vishanti offers an unparalleled look at every mystical artifact, villain, and location associated with Stephen Strange and his spell-casting allies.

SYFY WIRE quietly snuck into the library at Kamar-Taj to snag an exclusive spread from the new book that deals with — what else? — the concept of the multiverse! It's something you'll want to be caught up on not only for Strange's MCU sequel, but for Spider-Man: No Way Home (in theaters this Friday) as well. Our reveal is actually a two-for-one special with an exploration of the Dark Dimension, otherwise known as the central domain of the baddie who loves to bargain: Dormammu.

Check it out below:

And that's just the tip of the multiversal iceberg. The 160-pages of full-color illustrations cover everything from the Eye of Agamotto to the Sanctum Sanctorum to the Cloak of Levitation to more obscure items like The Conjurer's Cone and Carelli's Reversal. The Book of Vishanti is an actual grimoire that exists within the confines of the wider Marvel Universe and according to the comic book publisher, its spells can contradict those cast by way of the Darkhold (you'll remember Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, got her hands on that particular tome at the end of WandaVision on Disney+). Moreover, the term "Vishanti" refers to the trio of otherworldly beings — Oshtur, Agamotto, and Hoggoth — through whom all magic is channeled.

Doctor Strange: The Book of Vishanti goes on sale from Abrams Books and Marvel Entertainment tomorrow — Tuesday, Dec. 14 — for $29.99. You can get your hands on a copy right here (just tell the Ancient One we said so).

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit the big screen on May 6, 2022. Spider-Man veteran Sam Raimi returned to the world of Marvel to direct the follow-up, working off a script from Loki head writer/executive producer, Michael Waldron.

Chatting with us over the summer, Waldron expressed his excitement over "all the cool sci-fi and fantasy stuff you can do with Doctor Strange." He continued: ‘How can you go deeper into the character of Stephen Strange?’ This is a guy who’s been through a lot in the last several years. What effect does that have on somebody so powerful? That’s exciting. And beyond all that, he’s just a great adventurer — a great adventure hero you just like to watch kick ass."
