What is The Exorcist: Believer about?

Written by David Gordon Green and Peter Sattler, Believer doubles down on the demonic threat by having two possessed girls instead of one. When best friends Angela (Lidya Jewett) and Katherine (Olivia Marcum) go missing in the woods, their parents search for them in vain. The girls turn up after three days, but they don't seem to be the same carefree kids who vanished.

Doctors and other medical experts are baffled by their unsettling behavior, prompting Angela's father, Victor (Leslie Odom Jr.), to seek out a possession expert: Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn reprising the character for the first time in half a century).

Jennifer Nettles and Norbert Leo Butz play Katherine's parents, while Ann Dowd rounds out the ensemble as Victor and Angela's next-door neighbor.

Green and Danny McBride — both of whom conceived of the story with Scott Teems — were executive producers on the soft reboot alongside Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek, Brian Robinson, and Christopher Merrill. David Robinson, James G. Robinson, and Jason Blum were producers.

Two more sequels are currently in development. The second installment — titled The Exorcist: Deceiver — is slated for a wide theatrical release in spring 2025.

Looking for more theatrical action in the meantime? Five Nights at Freddy'sThe Super Mario Bros. Movie Asteroid City; Fast X; Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken; and Strays are also streaming.
