Kevin Feige confirms Marvel won't recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa character for Black Panther 2
The Marvel news came fast and furious during today's Disney Investor call, with studio chief Kevin Feige rapid-firing off a series of big reveals that still don't feel quite real. But toward the end of his mind-blowing segment, Feige did comment on a more serious topic that is all too real: the unfortunate passing earlier this year of actor Chadwick Boseman, who played T'Challa in several MCU films.
Attempting to fill the role that Boseman made famous would have been a difficult and delicate task indeed. But Feige fully assuaged any fan concerns over whether the studio might cloud Boseman's memory by casting someone else in the role for Black Panther 2. The King of Wakanda, said Feige, will not be recast.
Feige followed that news by saying that Marvel wants to continue to "explore the world of Wakanda, and the rich characters introduced in the first film."
He also stated that work on Black Panther 2, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, has already begun.
Things in Wakanda may never be the same, but we'll get to see what the future yet holds for the still-young Black Panther franchise when Black Panther 2 debuts on July 8, 2022.
