The CW orders series pilot based on '80s vampire classic The Lost Boys

The CW ordered a quartet of pilots this week, including two spinoffs from its well-known properties, Riverdale (with the spinoff a musical-dramedy following Katy Keene) and Jane the Virgin, and a Nancy Drew-inspired mystery. The fourth, however, happens to be based on the immortal 1987 vampire romp The Lost Boys

Per a report from Deadline, the network had developed a series adaptation of the horror/comedy back in the 2016-17 development season, courtesy of iZombie scribe Rob Thomas. Obviously, the project didn’t get picked up, but the suits at the top remained interested and had been looking to redevelop it.

In the meantime, Thomas had been working on the Veronica Mars reboot for Hulu, but a new approach from Scandal writer Heather Mitchell pushed it forward.

Details are still scarce at the moment, but there is a logline for the upcoming series:

"Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead."

Warner Bros., the studio behind the original film, will be producing the series in conjunction with Gulfstream TV, and Thomas' own company, Spondoolie. In addition to writing, Mitchell will also executive produce alongside Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, Rebeca Franco, and Bill Bindley.

No word yet if the legendary sexy saxophone man will be involved. But, in the meantime, we can dream.
