Look of the Week: Poe's infinity scarf in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: Episode IX

Welcome back to Look of the Week! Celebrating the best in TV and film sartorial excellence, past and present across sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and other genre classics!

We all know Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is the kind of guy who doesn’t mind if you borrow his jacket. In fact, he will let you keep it when he realizes it looks better on you. Now Poe is switching out his orange X-wing flight suit for a look that is part Indiana Jones (minus the hat and whip), part summer vacation. The weapons and ammo ruin the recreation vibe somewhat, but the infinity scarf around his neck in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser is selling it.

This is an outfit perfect for brunch, walking around an art gallery, or taking a stroll through Dubrovnik while on a Game of Thrones tour. Sadly, Poe doesn’t have time for a weekend break away to a city of his choosing, even if he has been reunited with his pals. But that doesn’t mean he can’t spruce up his outfit with an accessory that not only adds sartorial flare, but protects his neck from harmful rays. It might come in useful for any scrapes he is likely to get himself in, as the group shot below indicates.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (The Next Generation)
An infinity scarf is not the easiest garment to pull off without heading into fedora territory, but Poe doesn’t have to worry about this. He might be on the arrogant side at times, but he probably got the worst version of this slapped out of him in The Last Jedi. This costume update, courtesy of Michael Kaplan, mirrors the neutral palettes as worn by Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) and nothing warms my heart more than thinking about these three back together.

The slap might have humbled him, nevertheless, there is no getting rid of that specific kind of swagger. Every shot of him in the background, he is posing it up a storm. If this universe had Instagram, Poe would be a top tier influencer.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Finn and Poe)

At the Star Wars Celebration, Entertainment Tonight’s Ash Crossan sums it up rather eloquently in this interview with Oscar Isaac telling him, “How dare you! How dare you with the infinity scarf!” Now all Poe needs for true zaddy styling is the beard and silver streak that Oscar Isaac was sporting at the event in Chicago.

Infinity scarves have a bit of a bad reputation (for good reason), but in a galaxy, far, far away, the same rules of fashion do not apply. If Poe Dameron wants to wear an infinity scarf, then he should damn well wear an infinity scarf. As long as it doesn't get ruined from becoming a bandage — and knowing Poe’s penchant for giving away his clothes — it probably won’t be long before Finn borrows this too.
