Marvel fans are celebrating this week after Tuesday morning's Oscar nominations revealed seven nods for Black Panther, including a precedent-setting Best Picture nomination for the superhero hit. Black Panther exploded as a pop culture phenomenon early last year, and now it's taking a well-deserved victory lap on the biggest stage of awards season. We still don't know how many of those nominations can translate to actual Oscars, but for now, it's time to celebrate.
Fans and journalists who championed the film have, obviously, already taken to social media to express their joy, and the MCU's biggest stars aren't going to be left out of that. Several members of the Black Panther cast posted celebratory tweets early Tuesday, including Lupita Nyong'o, who commemorated the moment by remembering the cast's Comic-Con celebration after the first footage from the film was shown.
Co-stars Forest Whitaker and Letita Wright also celebrated the moment.
Even MCU stars beyond Black Panther were celebrating.
And of course, the celebration wouldn't be complete without a few words from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who shared his reaction with Entertainment Weekly.
“The word that keep coming to me from the moment it happened is just this humbling sense of pride for everyone involved in the movie,” Feige said.
“It’s the most important recognition that a film can receive in our industry. That’s not lost on any of us. It’s something that’s immensely gratifying. As the numerous phone calls and text messages [show] that went back and forth between all of us who were lucky enough to work on the film, it is just … pride.”
As the celebration stretched into its second day, the film's lead, Chadwick Boseman, also expressed his joy alongside other MCU favorites.
We'll continue to update this post with more MCU celebrations as they roll in.
