Steven Universe is already as huge as the universe, and now it's going to be a movie of cosmic proportions.

SYFY WIRE caught up with the magical creator of the show, Rebecca Sugar, and some cast members — Estelle (Garnet), Deedee Magno (Pearl) and Michaela Dietz (Amethyst) — to talk everything from Bob Fosse and inspiration to the LGBTQ community, teen crushes from the '90s and even fanny packs.

Steven wants his happy ending, but will he get one? Destructive forces from space are threatening to annihilate all life that exists on Earth, and he and his friends suddenly find themselves having to save the planet (again).

"I feel like it's such a celebration of everything we've loved about making the show together within the team," Sugar gushed about the movie, though she was "trying not to say too much."

Happy endings aren't necessarily endings, if you ask Dietz. They're always the dawn of something new. Forget the ending for a moment and realize that this going to be a musical, with the actors all singing their own parts. Sugar believes in the late Bob Fosse's philosophy that if you can't just say something, you have to sing it, and if you have even more emotion to release, you dance. Get ready to see Steven and the Gems sparkling like they never have before.

The show has especially been a phenomenon for the LGBTQ community, many of whom had nothing like this to relate to growing up, but who want to bring it to queer youth who may feel misunderstood.

"What we've always hoped to do with the show was to really reflect our personal childhoods on the team," said Sugar. "So the show is a reflection of us."

This is why she and her team have always tried to be as specific as they can to their own experiences, which may or may not include fanny packs. You'll have to keep watching to find that out.
