When Margo answers the door, she is grabbed by what turns out to be Charlton who is there with a warning. He wants Eliot to know that The Monster has inhabited his body and he is living amongst his memories.
Alice and Christopher Plover escape from the library and head to the fountains. She leads him to the one that goes to the poison room world, watches him jump in, and then tosses the return rope in after him.
Eliot travels through a medley of memories. He's revisiting past traumas in order to find the door that will allow him to power his own body and communicate with his friends. There are a lot of pretty devastating times to witness in the search for the door. No surprise: Junior High and High School seem to feature prominently.
Quentin and Julia succeed pulling blood from the stone, and it's a slow process. Julia lures Evil Eliot to the library to look for clues to decoding the runes he is now able to reveal in the stone. And Alice surprises Quentin by showing up and offering to help.
Shoshana is the MVP who finds the book that decodes the runes, but needs to conceal that from Evil Eliot to buy more time. Julia manages a quick cover story. It's not slick, but it works. And Julia manages to remove the page with the pertinent info.
Alice helps pull the blood from the stone and then Quentin asks her to leave. She then confesses to killing Christopher Plover, to Quentin's shock, and says she did it to redeem herself. She tells Quentin that if he lets her help him with the Evil Eliot problem that she will then go away.
Eliot finally realizes what his most repressed and traumatic memory is. And it's not that long ago. He observes his memory of a conversation between him and Quentin. Right after they shared 50 years together solving the mosaic. Turns out, Quentin lovingly and vulnerably suggested they give it a shot -- maybe they should be together. And Eliot blows him off. He's scared and so he runs. Current Eliot sees what's happened, criticizes his former self, kisses Quentin, and heads to the door.
The real Eliot reveals himself to Quentin. He mentions "peaches and plums" and Quentin knows he's really in there. He then pushes Evil Eliot aside so that the blood from the stone thrown by Alice hits him.
Evil Eliot vanishes and then Iris appears, furious at Julia that her plan to trap The Monster has been thwarted. She tries to kill her, but Shoshana jumps in front of Julia and she is killed instead. Sacrificing herself for her goddess.
Alice, Quentin and Julia think fast and quickly pull together a story for Evil Eliot. Their version: This was their plan all along, they just couldn't tell him because Iris was watching. They did all of this for him -- so he could kill Iris on his vengeance journey.
