Eric can be seen on Syfy's drama series, Haven, based on Stephen King's novel, The Colorado Kid. Eric appeared in the feature film thriller Backcountry, which has its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2014.

He also appeared in Universal Pictures' sci-fi thriller, Skyline. The movie follows a group of friends who discover an otherworldly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. The band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them. Eric plays Jarrod, a dark, handsome New York artist visiting Los Angeles with his girlfriend when the chaos ensues.
 
His other film credits include Dimension's Hell Ride, Mandate Film's The Horsemen opposite Dennis Quaid, and Lionsgate Film's The Spirit alongside Eva Mendes. In addition to his film career, Eric was seen in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Fox TV drama 24 as Milo, the smart and eccentric resident computer expert at the CTU.

On the big screen, Eric can be seen in several films, including In Her Shoes, for Twentieth Century FOX, directed by Curtis Hanson and opposite Cameron Diaz, and the remake of the cult classic hit The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - produced by Michael Bay for his company Platinum Dunes and directed by Marcus Nispel. Eric was also seen in the New Line feature Second Hand Lions opposite Haley Joel Osment. Other credits include Revolution Studio's America's Sweethearts opposite Julia Roberts and John Cusack, and Paramount Pictures' Nancy Meyers' film What Women Want opposite Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.

Eric's extensive list of television credits includes a starring role in Dick Wolf's Conviction on NBC where he played Brian Peluso within a group of young Assistant District Attorneys battling some of the most difficult legal cases in New York. He was also seen as a series regular on the Golden Globe winning HBO series Six Feet Under for creator/writer Alan Ball. Balfour played Gabe, the drug addicted, troubled boyfriend of Claire (Lauren Ambrose).

In addition to his screen time, Eric is also involved in many other creative endeavors as a writer/director and producer for his recently formed production company, Off the Grid Entertainment.
