…And we’re back! For the first time in what feels like forever, fans are showing up at the San Diego Convention Center to celebrate their heroes, streaming in for the ‘Con’s first in-person event in more than two years (has it really been that long?) as part of San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition.
The first on-site Comic-Con gathering since 2019, Special Edition arrives over the long Thanksgiving weekend as a sort of soft reset to once again jump-start the fan-fueled interactions that’ve long made SDCC the place to be for lovers of all things great and geeky. From Friday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 28, fans on the ground in San Diego will be treated to three days of comics, catching up after lost time, and — of course — cosplay, and lots of it.
Coming as the promised followup event to complement the online-only Comic-Con@Home edition of SDCC held earlier this year in July, the Special Edition of Comic-Con is all about community. While Marvel, DC, and tons more made headlines this summer with the ‘Con’s typical lineup of stars and new project reveals, this weekend trades the celebrity factor for a more intimate celebration that’s meant to focus on the fans, reuniting everyone after a long pandemic delay that canceled SDCC’s in-person party atmosphere for the past two summers.
As the attached cosplay gallery shows, they’re wasting no time getting back into the swing of things. We never knew how much we missed seeing Spock and the Grinch share the same space with Captain America and Boba Fett until cosplaying SDCC attendees put on a spectacular day-one show as Special Edition kicked off on Friday — and the best part is, we’re just getting started: Who knows what kind of clever costume creations we’ll see on Saturday and Sunday?

Browse our SDCC Special Edition cosplay gallery from Friday’s first-day kickoff, and give thanks on this holiday weekend that our geeky prayers have been answered. At long last, getting together in San Diego is once again a thing. The 'Con is back, and it's bringing fans together — and we couldn’t be more stoked.
