'Batman: The Long Halloween' animated DC film trailer kicks off festive murder spree in Gotham

By Josh Weiss

All Hallow's Eve is arriving a little early this year. Batman: The Long Halloween — Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's seminal comic book storyline from 1997 — comes to life in the first trailer for a two-part film adaptation hailing from DC Animation and Warner Bros, Home Entertainment. After voicing Jason Todd in Under the Red Hood, Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) steps into the role of Batman, who finds himself on the trail of a holiday-themed killer.

Watch the trailer now:

The voice cast also features Naya Rivera (Glee) as Catwoman/Selina Kyle (one of the actress's final roles, as she passed away last year), Josh Duhamel (Jupiter's Legacy) as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke (Twilight) as James Gordon, Titus Welliver (The Town) as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) as Calendar Man, Troy Baker (The Last of Us) as Joker, Amy Landecker (Transparent) as Barbara Gordon, Julie Nathanson (Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay) as Gilda Dent, Jack Quaid (The Boys) as Alberto, Fred Tatasciore (Solar Opposites) as Solomon Grundy, Jim Pirri (World of Warcraft) as Sal Maroni, Alastair Duncan (The Batman) as Alfred, Frances Callier, Greg Chun, and Gary Leroi Gray.

The Long Halloween is the third animated DC feature of 2021 after Batman: Soul of the Dragon and Justice Society World War II. It was directed by Chris Palmer (Superman: Man of Tomorrow), working off a screenplay by Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen). Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Kimberly S. Moreau (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) produced the feature. Butch Lukic (Justice Society: World War II, Superman: Man of Tomorrow) inhabited the role of supervising producer, with Michael Uslan and Sam Register executive-produced.

Rated PG-13, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One hits digital and Blu-Ray Tuesday, June 22. No word on when Part Two will be released, although it's been confirmed that the second installment will be rated R. Fans can get their hands on a combo pack containing both parts sometime next year.
