Today, the studio stole a brand-new trailer for the film and shared it with the world. The Spy Kids-esque story follows the eponymous 11-year-old genius (Fersia Shaw), who discovers that his father is the latest in a long line of family members to enter the criminal mastermind business, a top secret profession that protects mankind from dangerous secrets.
Accepting his ancestral destiny, Artemis Jr. sets off on an epic adventure to rescue his father, Artemis Fowl I (The Batman's Colin Farrell), from the clutches of an unseen fairy world. He'll get some much-needed help from his loyal butler, who is simply known as "Butler" (The Laundromat's Nonso Anozie); Mulch Diggums (Frozen II's Josh Gad), a giant dwarf with a penchant for thievery; and Captain Holly Short (Lara McDonnell), an elven agent for the Lower Elements Police (aka "LEPrecon"). Holly's superior is Commander Root (played by James Bond alum Judi Dench).

"Disney and Kenneth Branagh have magically found a way to extract my imagination, mixed in a dollop of Disney magic and projected the enchanted concoction onto the silver screen. I am very excited for audiences to see the film," Colfer said in a statement.
"Eoin Colfer created a landmark series of books and a totally original world of characters. We hope that fans familiar with this charismatic anti-hero, will also join a first-time cinema audience in enjoying a sea of surprises – cunning twists and turns in a typical Artemis Fowl style," added Branagh in a statement of his own. "His Irish adventures are breathless, exhilarating, energized escapades on a truly global scale. Inspired by his legendary cheekiness and wit, we’ve been privileged to introduce the myth from the page and hopefully create a new hero for the big screen. It’s been a real joy to be on that ride."
Artemis Fowl finally hits the big screen on May 29, 2020.
