IDW Publishing is expanding its licensed property starring those beloved Heroes in a Half Shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with two new tabletop board games — and we've got an exclusive preview of all the kung-fu fun, plus concept art and character figure designs to share.

Launched last week on Kickstarter, this pair of scenario-based, role-playing amusements — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Change is Constant and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: City Fall — are stripped straight from the pages of IDW's TMNT comics and spawned out of designer Kevin Wilson's Adventures game system.

TMNT Board Games

Operating inside the same universe as Shadows of the Past, the crowdfunding campaign features multiple pledge levels, a wide range of bundles, and special stretch rewards. So far, the successful Kickstarter marketing push has blown past its original $200,000 goal and is currently totaling over $420,000 in supporter cash.

These upcoming TMNT games can act either as stand-alone games or bonus expansions of IDW Games' Shadows of the Past. The primary differences are that Shadows of the Past was a "1 vs. 4" game in which one player manipulated the villain and everyone else controlled a hero turtle, whereas this new pair of games provide an alternative ruleset to control its collection of crazy criminals via established parameters.

One of the more intriguing aspects of the new game duo is the addition of a "Stan Sakai Pack," which includes variant sculpts of the ninja gang as well as a playable Miyamoto Usagi character. Usagi is the headliner of Sakai's celebrated Usagi Yojimbo comic series that has often crossed over with different TMNT series and showcased the skilled rabbit ronin.

Both editions boast over 100 all-new, detailed miniatures, more than 30 fresh scenarios, and splashy new art for character sheets, tile maps, and ability cards.

Change is Constant comes fully loaded with Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Casey Jones as the main protagonists, while City Fall spotlights April O'Neil, Splinter, Old Hob, Slash, and Angel Bridge. The two games also come packed with alternative villains including Bebop, Rocksteady, Shredder, Mousers, and Alopex.

Basic game bundles are priced at $125 each and are accompanied by their own elaborate set of Kickstarter exclusives. Buying Change is Constant snags you the special "Stan Sakai Box," while City Fall doubles down with the "Deviation Pack" that scores you darker versions of the rowdy Turtles. If you're feeling a bit evil, there's also an optional "Villains Upgrade" pack that lets contestants play collectively as the baddies against the boys.

TMNT Deviations

"The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Adventure Series game kicks serious shell," IDW Games Product Manager Spencer Reeve tells SYFY WIRE. "You can play as any of the Ninja Turtles as well as their friends Casey Jones, April O'Neal, and even some IDW-created characters like the wily mutated cat, Old Hob... I love this game — it's a blend of things fans have seen and loved for decades, but it also does a great job of introducing people to our comic book universe that they may not have seen before."
