Adding onto an original roster featuring genre legends like The X-Files, Stan Lee, and even David Hasselhoff, Audible is heading into the world of video games for its next star-studded project. After Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons took Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise to the big screen, now the ideological war is set to hit the airwaves.

SYFY WIRE can exclusively announce the imminent arrival of Assassin’s Creed Gold, an original audio drama written by Anthony Del Col (Kill Shakespeare), which takes place in the universe of the Templar vs. Assassin video games that have spanned history. Over the course of eight episodes, Riz Ahmed (Venom), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Danny Wallace (Assassin’s Creed Syndicate), and Tamara Lawrence (No Offence) will bring their adventurous tale of murder and politics straight into the brains of fans — no Animus required.

Assassin’s Creed has set the highest of bars in the world of gaming,” Steve Carsey, Director of Original Content at Audible UK said in a statement. “Embracing the best of the game’s characters, sophisticated plotting, and conspiracy laden storylines, we couldn’t wait to dive deep into the machinations of this multi-layered universe.”

The story, which draws parallels between “Isaac Newton’s 17th-century Britain and the economic uncertainty of recent history,” is focused on the plight of Aliyah Kahn. She’s a small time street crook whose scams are upended by the mysterious Gavin Banks. In order to repay him, she must become an Assassin and delve into the memories of her ancestor, Omar Khalid.

Secret messages, counterfeiting, killings, and even Isaac Newton take part in the ensuing adventure, which makes banking (via the Great Recoinage of 1696) sound like an exciting, plausible setting for this kind of story.

“We are really proud to announce our collaboration with Audible to create the first audio drama inspired by an Ubisoft game,” said Aymar Azaizia, Transmedia And Business Development Director at Ubisoft. “As an entertainment company, we are always looking after new ways to immerse players into our worlds, and we strongly believe Assassin’s Creed Gold offers a great opportunity for all our fans to dive into a new storyline inspired by Assassin’s Creed franchise”.

Assassin’s Creed Gold is available for pre-order now and launches its first episode on Feb. 27, 2020.
