Anthony Mackie trips on a sci-fi drug in first mind-bending trailer for 'Synchronic'

SYNCHRONIC

Jonseing for more reality-bending cinema after seeing Christopher Nolan's Tenet? The Endless directing duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson have you covered in the first stylish and maze-like trailer for Synchronic.

The sci-fi project stars Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Jamie Dornan (Trolls World Tour) as Steve and Dennis, a pair of New Orleans paramedics, who are summoned to the scenes of bizarre and gruesome accidents. They soon discover a mysterious new party drug — which most likely gives the movie its title — that seems to be able to shift the very fabric of existence once ingested.

When Dennis' daughter suddenly goes missing, "Steve stumbles upon a terrifying truth about the supposed psychedelic that will challenge everything he knows about reality — and the flow of time itself," reads the official synopsis. From the Louisiana setting to the central genre MacGuffin, viewers may be reminded of Netflix's Project Power, which also deals with a super-powered narcotic that ravages the streets of the Big Easy. Think of Synchronic as Nolan in NOLA.

Katie Aselton (She Dies Tomorrow) and Ally Ioannides (Into the Badlands) co-star alongside Mackie and Dornan.

Synchronic heads to theaters and drive-ins Friday, Oct. 23. However, it should be noted that Moorhead and Benson have gone on the record saying that they would not attend a traditional theater amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, they reccommend fans with safety concerns wait a bit until an eventual VOD or Blu-ray release to check out their film.

Whether or not you plan to see the release at some kind of venue that isn't your home, you can still get excited with the first look images in the gallery below...
