Chosen One of the Day: Ghost Doll Nadja in What We Do in the Shadows

By Preeti Chhibber

What We Do in the Shadows is a nigh perfect show. We know this. And somehow, in the second season, it manages to become even more perfect. In Episode 2, our favorite wayward vamps realize that hey, what happened to their souls when they died? Do they have ghosts? Do they need to help their ghosts move on?

First of all, kudos to bringing something new to mainstream vampire fiction in the year of our hellscape, 2020. Second, this leads to one of my new favorite additions to the team: Nadja’s Ghost Doll.

Nandor has to find his dead horse, Laszlo — well, the less said on that the better — but it turns out Nadja doesn’t really want to say goodbye to her ghost. There’s finally someone in the house who really gets her. They laugh and joke and gossip. They commiserate over finally having each other to talk to. So instead of helping ghost-Nadja move on, she finds her a body of sorts. It’s a creepy doll. It’s a creepy doll that Nadja’s ghost flies into and immediately makes an even creepier, but somehow compelling, doll.

Honestly, if this had been Renesmee I would have been totally sold on Breaking Dawn. She's like the creepy best friend doll I never wanted.

Call me, Ghost-Doll-Nadja.
