Fast Forever: Vin Diesel Reveals Title & 2028 Release for Final Fast & Furious Film (DETAILS)

The Toretto family is officially nearing the end of the road, with the Fast & Furious franchise set to conclude in spring 2028 with the eleventh and final chapter: Fast Forever.

Dominic Toretto himself, Vin Diesel, confirmed the film's title and release date on Instagram Jan. 30, sharing a photo of himself and the late Paul Walker (Brian O'Connor) from the original movie.

"No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours," Diesel wrote in the caption. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER."

Fast Saga co-star Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce) commented on the post, saying: "Love my brothers!! It’s TIME!!!!!! FastX prt 2."

The news was corroborated via the brand's official social media accounts.

Assuming there are no further delays, the film will debut just shy of five years after its predecessor, marking the largest gap between F&F sequels (previous lulls only spanned 2-3 years max). Released in May 2023, Fast X cost over $300 million, but only grossed $704 million at the global box office.

"[It] cost so much money and didn't really deliver on the box office," Barry Hertz, author of Welcome to the Family: The Explosive Story Behind Fast & Furious, the Blockbusters that Supercharged the World, told SYFY WIRE in December 2025. And then Vin has had his own troubles in and out of court, which seems to have been resolved."

He continued: "I think they'll deliver a finale ... You really can't leave fans on such a cliffhanger—both metaphorically and literally. They were on a cliff, one plane carrying half the characters crashed into a mountain, and they were facing this explosive rain of fire. It's now been three years since that, so I feel they will have to deliver something. I feel like it'll be more grounded, a little bit less hop-scotching all over the globe."

It remains unclear at this time whether Fast X director Louis Leterrier will return to helm the finale. There was also talk of Dwayne Johnson returning for a solo Luke Hobbs movie set between the tenth and eleventh chapters.

There's also a question of who is writing Fast Forever.

In April 2023, for instance, Deadline reported that Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey) and Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox) had been tapped to write the F&F curtain closer. A little over a year later, however, Diesel posted on Instagram to announce that Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War, The Gorge) was penning the script.

"I can't really talk about it, except to tell you tell you it’s happening," Dean told SYFY WIRE in early 2025. "It's really exciting. It's a totally different animal than the original stuff, but it's really cool. To be part of that legacy … It’s 25 years, man—it's 11 films. It’s amazing. And I’m so happy to just contribute to it in any way. It’s very different from the original work, but it’s really cool."

To date, the Fast & Furious series (which includes the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff) has grossed over $7 billion worldwide since it first launched all the way back in 2001.
