WIRE Buzz: Game of Thrones doc drops trailer, The Rock bids Jumanji sequel adieu

HBO says goodbye to Game of Thrones with a sleek docu while The Rock says goodbye to (filming) the upcoming Jumanji sequel in this edition of the WIRE Buzz. 

First up, while Game of Thrones fans are currently yelling at each other on the internet over the latest episode, HBO has released a trailer for The Last Watch, a documentary going behind the scenes of the show’s final season.

Directed by Jeanie Finlay, the two-hour doc serves as a farewell to Westeros, featuring all the people in front of and behind the camera who helped build the realm. Based on the trailer, the doc appears to show the first table read for Season 8, and a particularly teary-eyed adieu to one lead actor after filming her final scene. Check it out:

Regardless of your current feelings about the latest episode, this documentary looks like it will evoke many feels from GoT fans.

The Last Watch premieres May 26 on HBO.

Next, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced via Instagram that production for the upcoming Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel has wrapped. 

“And off into the desert sunset our favorite video game avatars go. Ladies & gentlemen that’s an official production wrap for our new JUMANJI sequel,” Johnson wrote on Instagram next to a photo of what appears to be him and his fellow co-stars walking away in the desert. “Thank you to EVERYONE and EVERY COMPANY who has committed your time and talents to making our film the best it can be for our audience. And most importantly, THANK YOU JUMANJI FANS WORLDWIDE for making our franchise a success beyond our wildest dreams.”

In addition to Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, and Colin Hanks are set to reprise their roles from the 2017 film, which rebooted the franchise that began with 1995's Robin Williams-starring film, Jumanji. Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Awkwafina are also set to join the cast. 

Jake Kasdan, who helmed Welcome to the Jungle, is returning to direct.

The sequel, which remains untitled at this point, goes wild in theaters on Dec. 13.

And finally, the Purging continues. Universal has announced the release date for the fifth, as-yet-untitled film in The Purge series, Deadline reports. 

The Purge 5 is slated to open July 10, 2020, currently the same release date as Jason Reitman's new Ghostbusters film.

The Purge franchise centers on a society in which, for one night out of the year, all crime — including jaywalking and loitering — is legal, though the movies mostly focus on folks committing murder.

Separately, USA Network has renewed The Purge television series for a second season.
