More Supergirl? Melissa Benoist 'not opposed' to reprising role after sixth and final season

The 'Supergirl' actress says the odds are pretty good we'll see Kara Danvers again.

Only three episodes remain for the sixth and final season of The CW's Supergirl, but don't expect the series finale to be the last time you see Melissa Benoist in a red cape. Chatting with Entertainment Weekly about her time spent on the Arrowverse project, Benoist admitted she's "not opposed to putting on the suit again and I know there probably will be opportunities to."

It wouldn't be much of a stretch to bring Kara Danvers back for a reunion with her Kryptonian cousin, Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin), who is currently raising two sons alongside Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) in Superman & Lois.

"It would have to feel right for the character and I know they would probably do it justice," Benoist added. "I love playing with [The Flash star] Grant Gustin. I love Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch on Superman & Lois. So no, I'm not opposed to it."

Despite the the melancholy that comes with bringing a long-running show to a close, Benoist feels like this is the perfect way to send off the character.

"I don't know if I was ready to say goodbye to the characters, which I think is healthy," she said. "You always want to be sad and miss something and I'm so glad I didn't have that, 'Oh my gosh. I'm so ready.' And just the feeling of wanting to throw it away and not think about it again. I definitely will miss playing the role, but I was ready for a break, personally."

Benoist, along with her fellow co-stars, appeared at DC FanDome several weekends ago to bid farewell to Supergirl

“It’s changed my life, this show,” the lead actress reflected. “It’s been a joy, and seeing the way that this canon and the mythology affects people and young girls and the people who look up to our characters — it’s very meaningful.”

Fans won't have to go too long without a Supergirl fix as Sasha Call (The Young and the Restless) will play a big screen iteration of the hero in next year's standalone Flash movie. We actually got our first look at Call in her costume (standing next to a pair of Barry Allens) with a short sizzle reel that also premiered at FanDome

The next episode of Supergirl Season 6 (titled "Truth or Consequences") airs on The CW Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. EST. The two-part series finale ("The Last Gauntlet" and "Kara") will arrive the following Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the same time.
