It feels like we've been hearing whispers of an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff project pretty much since Revenge of the Sith at this point, even if those whispers have only really gotten louder in the last couple of years. First it was going to be a film project, then it was going to a be a series, then the series was delayed, then late last year during Disney's Investor Day presentation, signs of progress emerged in the form of concept art. Now, Obi-Wan Kenobi is closer than it's ever been, and to prove it Lucasfilm dropped a new sizzle reel from much-anticipated new series during a Disney+ Day presentation on Friday.

Set 10 years after Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the series picks up on the title character (played once again by prequel star Ewan McGregor) amid his life of solitude on Tatooine. In the wake of the downfall of his best friend and apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, Kenobi has turned his attention to guarding the galaxy's new hope, Anakin's son Luke, from afar. But living a quiet hermit's life on Tatooine is not without complications, particularly since Disney has announced the series will also include the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin, who's now lived for a decade as the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

In the official featurette, which hit Disney+ Friday morning and is streaming on the service, McGregor and director Deborah Chow walk fans through what to expect from the new series. It is, understandably, a very dark time in the galaxy, as the Empire tightens its grip after the fall of the Republic and Darth Vader assumes his place as the Emperor's key enforcer. For Kenobi, it all means focusing very hard on a single goal: Keeping Luke Skywalker safe, but as the concept art reveals in the featurette, that's easier said than done. It seems we will indeed get at least one more duel between the Sith Lord and his former master, not to mention another look inside Vader's Castle as it was revealed during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

"The most beautiful thing of all is that it's brought me back together with Hayden," McGregor said. "Have another swing at each other...might be quite satisfying for everybody."

Directed by Deborah Chow and written by Joby Harold, Obi-Wan Kenobi will also star Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. Also returning alongside McGregor and Christensen are Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton, reprising their roles as Luke's Uncle Owen Lars and Aunt Beru Lars.

Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives on Disney+ next year.
