Bong Joon-ho's first movie since 'Parasite' will be a sci-fi thriller with Robert Pattinson
The Parasite director is set to adapt Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel, Mickey7.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho has discovered his next movie. The Parasite director is set to adapt Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel, Mickey7, and Robert Pattinson is in talks to star in it. Warner Bros. will distribute.
It’s okay, you can take a few deep breaths. We know that was a lot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “[The novel] centers on Mickey7, a man on an expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. This expendable employee takes jobs too risky for anyone else, and when he dies, he regenerates as a clone with most of his memories intact. When Mickey7 is presumed dead, he returns to the mission’s base only to see that a new clone, Mickey8, has taken his place.”
The novel will be published in the first quarter of this year, so while we don’t know when the movie will come out, the book should be here shortly.
This will be Bong’s first feature film since 2019’s global sensation, Parasite, which became the first non-English language movie to win the Oscar for Best Picture. Bong also nabbed Best Director and shared the award for Best Original Screenplay, too. The movie earned $259 million worldwide and even has a spin-off series in development at HBO. Before that, he also directed the Netflix-released Okja (2017), Snowpiercer (2013), and Mother (2009), among others.
Pattinson is starring as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie The Batman, coming out on March 4. Clearly, the British actor is no stranger to leading roles. Since famously starring as the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight series of movies (2008-2012), Pattinson has gone on to headline films such as Tenet (2020), The Lighthouse (2019), Good Time (2017), and Water for Elephants (2011).
Mickey7 will be the first collaboration between Bong and Pattinson. No word yet on a release date.
