Star Wars to release books that tie in with Galaxy's Edge theme park

Star Wars A Crash of Fate

While Star Wars fans eagerly await the opening of the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park at Disney World and Disneyland later this year, Lucasfilm is releasing some new books designed to tie into the park’s experience.

In addition to the previously-announced Galaxy’s Edge five-issue comic book miniseries launching April 24, the official Star Wars website has unveiled even more books featuring stories that take place on the remote Outer Rim world of Batuu, where the theme park is set.

On August 6, Disney Lucasfilm Press will release A Crash of Fate. In this YA novel by Zoraida Córdova, Izzy and Jules were best friends until Izzy’s family left Batuu when she was six. Now Izzy’s back, and Jules is unsure what to make of her. While on the run from vengeful smugglers and an angry pirate, the two friends must come to terms with what they mean to each other.

August 6 also marks the release of Star Wars: Myths & Fables, a novel for middle-graders written by George Mann with illustrations by Grant Griffin. The book features many illustrated stories from the edge of the galaxy, including two stories that take place on Batuu. (The site also features an excerpt from the story “The Knight & the Dragon” within Myths & Fables.)

And finally, in Black Spire, a novel by Delilah S. Dawson, General Leia Organa dispatches her top spy to Batuu to search for Resistance allies. This book, available from Del Rey on September 3, serves as a prequel to the Disney Parks experience.

So, while we all have to wait nearly a year for Star Wars: Episode IX to hit theaters, we’ve still got plenty Star Wars goodies to keep us (mildly) sated over the course of 2019.

Galaxy's Edge opens in Disneyland in June, then in Disney World this fall.
