If we were Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), we'd be shaking in our oversized boots right about now.
Did he really think he could wipe out half of all life in the universe and just peacefully enjoy his sunset forevermore? Still, they don't call him the Mad Titan for nothing, and he's about to get an open can of whoop-ass from all of the surviving Avengers.
Their counteroffensive really begins to take off in the second trailer for Avengers: Endgame, which was released during the Super Bowl. It's a similar move made by Marvel, who last year released a teaser of Infinity War during the Big Game.
Watch the new trailer below:
While some people have moved on in the Leftovers-esque world left by Thanos, Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) cannot, and he certainly won't rest until he's done all he can to reverse what happened. In the meantime, he's attending support groups for those still reeling from the fact that half of the Earth's population disintegrated into dust.
The new trailer also gives us our first look at post-Infinity War Rocket Raccoon, who was noticeably absent in the first trailer dropped back in December. Rocket really needs some revenge, because he watched his best friend, a teenage Groot (Vin Diesel), disappear in front of his very eyes.
That initial trailer also gave us a bleak look at Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) floating out in space with Nebula (Karen Gillan), their food and water supply seriously depleted. The Big Game spot adds a more hopeful note as the two characters spring into action to presumably fix their ship.
After fomenting this melancholic, post-apocalyptic world, Thanos is still nowhere to be seen, except for those quick shots of his armor and field strolling in the first teaser. Whereas Infinity War was very much his show, Endgame, it seems, will be all about the good folks trying to undo his heinous plan.
Directed by the Russo Brothers, Endgame will introduce Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) after her solo film in March.
In addition, Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), noticeably absent from Infinity War, will return in the sequel. Last we saw of Lang, he was trapped in the Quantum Realm, but Barton's whereabouts during "The Decimation" are more mysterious. Many suspect that he lost his family, something that drove him to become the more ruthless vigilante known as Ronin.
Other survivors who will be instrumental in the final fight against Thanos are Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), M'Baku (Winston Duke), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and Iron Patriot (Don Cheadle).
Avengers: Endgame snaps into theaters April 26.
