Sarah Connor is back and as bad as ever in first trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate

Praise Skynet! Today Paramount Pictures saw fit to bestow us with the first trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate, the sixth installment in the sci-fi franchise James Cameron kicked off nearly four decades ago. Luckily for fans, Cameron returns as a producer, having helped come up with the story upon which the script is based. Tim Miller, leader of the first Deadpool, is stepping into the director's chair.

Of course, the Avatar director isn't the only familiar face returning to the sci-fi world of Terminator. Both Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (the T-800) are both coming back for more rock-'em-sock-'em robot goodness. We've seen Arnie reprise his role several times across the sequels, but this is Hamilton's first film as Sarah Connor since T2: Judgment Day.

Watch the action-packed trailer below:

As with the Halloween sequel/soft reboot last year, Dark Fate will ignore all of the movies after T2, serving as a direct follow-up to the Cameron-helmed movies. Not only does it simplify the timeline, it also implies that Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys were unworthy sequels/prequels to the first two movies, which — let's be honest — they kind of were. But hey, The Sarah Connor Chronicles was pretty solid, right?

Newcomers to the series are: Natalia Reyes (Birds of Passage) as Dani Ramos, a young woman being targeted by the machines; Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire) as Grace, a humanoid android from the future sent to protect Dani; Gabriel Luna (Ghost Rider) as a new kind of Terminator who can multiply himself; Diego Boneta (Scream Queens) as Miguel Ramos, Dani's brother; and Enrique Arce (Knightfall).

Here's the first poster as well:

Moments after the trailer dropped, Paramount added yet another gift into the mix: a behind-the-scenes featurette with testimonials from the cast and crew. Hearing Cameron give his seal of approval to Dark Fate should be enough to quell any naysayers or heretics who have been led astray by those subpar sequels and spinoffs.

"This new film has recaptured that tone of those first two films," says Cameron in the video below. "It's gritty, it's fast, it's intense, and it's just a white-knuckled ride."

Written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), Billy Ray (Overlord), and Justin Rhodes (RoboCop Returns), Terminator: Dark Fate travels back in time and into theaters everywhere Friday, Nov. 1.
