The Matrix Resurrections is coming out later this month, over two decades after the premiere of The Matrix, a film that is arguably one of the most influential movies of all time.

The original 1999 film has always been one worth revisiting, but the recent Matrix revival caused by Resurrections has also spurred the release of the original soundtrack on vinyl. Today, Varèse Sarabande Records announced that they’re putting out The Matrix: The Complete Edition, a three-LP collection that includes all of the music from the 1999 film plus an exclusive interview with composer Don Davis.

“I could see … that it was something extraordinary,” Davis says in his interview about scoring the Wachowski siblings’ film.  “Part of the reason I think The Matrix was a success is because [the Wachowskis] were able to hold onto their idea of what it needed to be. And there were things about The Matrix that couldn’t be read in the script, which I would say involved their unique visual sense.”

Davis went on to add that the Wachowskis wanted something new and different with the score and said that the filmmakers “generally wanted more integration between the music and the film than a lot of other directors do. … [They] wanted the music to outline the action pretty closely at times.”

The vinyl edition also comes in a tri-fold jacket and includes cool-looking new artwork and original film stills, some of which you can see below:

If vinyl’s not your thing, you can also buy the collection in CD or SACD form, or on the digital platform of your choice. Alas, as it won’t become available until June 3, 2022, but it’s now available for pre-order

To get your Matrix fix in the meantime, however, you can check out The Matrix Resurrections when it premieres in theaters and on HBO Max on Dec. 22, 2021.
