Harry Potter, Pixar mashups, and the most horrifying ducks you've ever seen
Welcome back to Important Toy News, the SYFY WIRE column that shows you all the best and coolest happenings in the world of amazing toys and collectibles for the week.
Make some space in your display cases, tell your kids that their toys can go somewhere else, and dive back into that toy box, because you are checking out another week of bodacious toy blastings with your resident, and hopefully favorite, toy journalist. Together we shall experience the loss of our dollars and have tons of fun going broke from pre-orders galore!
And this week, are starting off with a spooky trip to the Little Pond of Horrors.
WHAT GOES 'QUACK' IN THE NIGHT?
Who can forget the iconic horror and spine-chilling movies The Exorcist, It, The Lost Boys, and Beetlejuice? Some fans might have been scared out of their minds, but you know that you wanted to see more! Now, the scary stars of the show have risen again and are back... in duck form!
Sure, these little quackers look cute, but they’re cosplaying terrors. I adore how the Regan duck has a backward head! Other characters in the lineup are Pennywise (need), Beetlejuice (also need), and Michael and David from The Lost Boys. Seriously, Michael’s little jeans are killing me more than the quackin’ boos these spooky delights generate. Each costs $12.99 and can be ordered from Numskull today.
MONSTOY STORY INC.
Movies — they make us laugh, they make us cry, and with a name like Pixar, you can add one more of that “cry” part. Because for the last 25 years, no other company (nope, not even you Don Bluth) has generated a torrential tsunami of emotions quite like Pixar. And in honor of that anniversary, Funko is releasing a fresh wave of Pop!s. Each Pop! in the wave is a Pizza Planet Alien from Toy Story dressed up as a recognizable Pixar character.
You can order a 10-inch Alien dressed as Sulley from Monster’s Inc. for $34.99, or 3.75-inch Alien as Roz, Alien as Sulley, Alien as Randall, Alien as Wall-E, Alien as Mater, and Alien as Elastigirl. These smaller pieces cost $10.99 each and ship September 2020.
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY FUNKOS
A new addition has been added to the Pop! Rides collection. If you can’t get enough Harry Potter, this Pop! Rides figure features Harry, Ron, and Hermione on the back of a dragon after they break out of Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Think Evil-Falcor meets Haunted-Appa as this wizarding trio yip yips their way to glory. This crazy cool majestic vinyl creation costs $32.99 and will ship October 2020.
MORTOY KOMBACTION FIGURE
Are you ready to test your might? These new Mortal Kombat XI figures from McFarlane Toys will have you dreaming of the arcade. And seriously, Mortal Kombat is one of my all-time favorite video games. Get your quarter ready because Baraka and Kitana are on their way.
Each figure stands 7 inches tall, boasts 22 points of articulation, and costs $19.99. The Baraka figure (preorder available here) comes with two blades, a brain, and a base to stand on. And Kitana (preorder available here) comes with a dagger, fan, and base.
HEAVY METAL LIGHT PLASTIC
Hey, heavy metal warrior! If you want to see something headbanging-ly cool, you’ve got to check out the new Slayer ReAction Figure three-pack from Super7. The collaboration of Super7 with heavy metal legends Slayer continues with the Live Undead three-Pack! Inspired by the band's 1984 "live" EP it features the undead band members as 3.75-inch ReAction Figures with the bleeding headstone right out of the record's cover art.
The set comes with two guitar accessories packaged in a graveyard window box. This set costs $54.99 and is available from Super7 today.
BUG BITE-SIZED TRANSFORMER
Fans can take their Transformers figure collections to the next level with Generations Selects, a fan-dedicated line of figures featuring fan-favorite, special edition characters you can’t find in the main line. This special edition WFC-GS16 Bug Bite figure is inspired by the mercenary from the Transformers War for Cybertron Netflix series, complete with the official mercenary faction logo.
This Bug Bite figure converts from robot to classic G1 sports car mode in 18 steps and comes with a blaster accessory that can attach to the figure in robot and sportscar modes. Bug Bite in my opinion is a super attractive toy and I love the black/white/purple color scheme. It’s just a really great piece. And for $19.99, there’s no way this little dude can’t find his way into your collection.
Order him today and he will ship October 2020!
POOL VENOM TOYS TO MAKE TOY VENOMPOOL
We’re nearing the end, my toy collecting friends, and we’re dedicating these last two entries in this week’s Important Toy News to Super Hero Toys! Specifically, the newest announcements from Hasbro’s Marvel Legends collection. It’s an entire Venom inspired wave, and each character in the group is packed with a build a figure piece. Assemble them all and you can build Venompool!
Included in the series are Venom (featuring two head sculpts and two pairs of hands), Morbius, Ghost-Spider, Phage, Miles, and Carnage (also with two head sculpts and two pairs of hands). Each 6-inch figure costs $19.99, ships October 2020, and is available for preorder today.
PLASTIC SILVER IRON MAN
And while there is no preorder information available quite yet for Iron Man, this will-be Walgreens exclusive, that won’t stop us from admiring it together. This new Iron Man is the Silver Centurion Iron Man, which was a pivotal point in the Iron Man comics as Tony Stark returns to the armor having left it in Rhodey's care.
First appearing in Iron Man #200, this new Silver Centurion suit was the first major change to the Iron Man armor that would be a trend going forward ever since. Remember, this new figure was only announced — the figure is not available yet for presale at Walgreens. The Iron Man 2020 armor is still available online and in some stores so don’t let that slip by you as we get ready for the Silver Centurion armor.
