WIRE Buzz: Edgar Wright haunting 'Stage 13' for Amblin; New 'Sputnik' horror trailer; Fox fall lineup

Edgar Wright is set to direct supernatural project Stage 13 for Amblin Entertainment, Deadline confirmed today. The Steven Spielberg-founded production company nabbed the big-screen rights to Simon Rich's short story of the same name. Rich, a vet of Saturday Night Live, is producing and writing the screenplay, with Wright also attached to develop and produce.

The movie will follow the ghost of a dead silent film actress, who haunts the backlot soundstage where she once worked. Her monotonous existence becomes livelier when she finds common ground with a struggling director. Together, they set out to make their cinematic mark on the world.

Nira Park, co-founder of Complete Fiction with Wright, is producing as well.

Wright's next effort is Last Night in Soho, a time-twisting psychological horror flick set against the backdrop of London's fashion scene, circa the 1960s. Originally scheduled to open in theaters this fall, the movie was delayed to April 23, 2021, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Greetings, comrades!

You can check out the latest and terrifying trailer for Sputnik, a sci-fi horror film about a Soviet-era cosmonaut who gets possessed by an alien entity after a mission in outer space goes awry. Marking the feature debut of director Egor Abramenko, the movie (written by Oleg Malovichko and Andrei Zolotarev) is set at the height of the Cold War and clearly draws inspiration from classics like Ridley Scott's Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing.

Freak yourself out with the trailer below:

Oksana Akinshina stars as Tatiana Yurievna, a struggling Russian doctor who is recruited by the army to extract an alien being from the body of cosmonaut Konstantin Sergeyevich (Pyotr Fyodorov). She wants to save Konstantin, but the military is much more interested in studying the nocturnal E.T. for weapons-related purposes. No shocker there. Based on the latest footage, it looks as though Tatiana will defy her state-sponsored masters in an effort to free her medical charge from captivity and allow the alien to make short work of Stalin's finest.

Fedor Bondarchuk and Anton Vasilev co-star.

Sputnik crash-lands in select theaters, digital, and cable VOD Friday, Aug. 14.

While the global health crisis continues to keep many Hollywood productions on hold, the world of animation has been able to chug along rather nicely. As such, network lineups of animated programming for fall 2020 should not be delayed.

"Cartoons seem to be the only pandemic-proof area of the entertainment industry. I wish I didn’t have to find that out, but it’s an interesting fact," Tom Kenny (voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, among many other things) told SYFY WIRE in late May.

Right now, we know Fox's rollout plan. TVLine brings word that The Simpsons (Season 32), Bless the Harts (Season 2), Bob’s Burgers (Season 11), and Family Guy (Season 19) will all return on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9:00 p.m. ET.

The outlet was also able to share a sneak peek at The Simpsons' panel for Comic Con@Home, which will debut this Sunday, July 26. Yeardley Smith (the voice of Lisa Simpson) is moderating the event, which includes Al Jean, Matt Selman, David Silverman, Carolyn Omine, and Mike B. Anderson.

In the clip below, you can see Silverman play the iconic theme song on a tuba.
