Wonder Woman 1984: Kristen Wiig's 'apex predator' Cheetah shows her claws in second trailer

By Josh Weiss
Cheetah Wonder Woman 1984

Nearly a year after Wonder Woman 1984 dropped its initial footage at Brazil's CCXP last December, the comic book sequel released a follow-up trailer during DC FanDome today — and we finally get to see the big screen Cheetah in action.

In addition to seeing more of the movie's nostalgic period setting, we also get to watch Kristen Wiig's Cheetah throw down with Gal Gadot's Diana Prince. The two characters actually start off as friends, working at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Jealous of Diana and swayed by the greedy philosophy of the Gordon Geckko-esque business tycoon Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), Barbara Ann Minerva (Wiig) starts down a path that turns her into a furry and clawed "apex predator." Plus, it looks like Steve Trevor (we still don't know how Chris Pine's seasoned pilot is still alive after seemingly dying in WWI) is going to get a classic '80s fashion montage.

Watch now:

"We are so excited to get to be here and see everybody and get to talk to everybody and answer questions from everybody," Jenkins said just before the trailer was revealed at the end of the FanDome panel. "But it wouldn't quite be a good fan event if we didn't share a little something back."

Originally slated for a theatrical debut back in early June, the Warner Bros. film was delayed twice as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually settling on a date in early October. Patty Jenkins returns as director, working from a script she co-wrote with Geoff Johns and David Callaham. The filmmaker teased the new trailer drop yesterday with some colorful artwork (see the tweet below).

Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Kristoffer Polaha, and Amr Waked co-star in Wonder Woman 1984, which is scheduled to hit theaters everywhere Friday, Oct. 2.
