A Quiet Place Part II: Emily Blunt treads carefully in flashback-filled first trailer

By Josh Weiss & Jacob Oller
A Quiet Place Part II

The first full trailer for A Quiet Place: Part II is finally here, and we're trying to keep all noises to a minimum just in case something is lurking outside. John Krasinski (The Office, Jack Ryan) returns to write and direct the sequel to his smash horror hit about mysterious creatures that kill anyone unfortunate enough to talk above a whisper.

Now fans get to see how the invasion of the monsters began, and while we know what the beings (most likely aliens) look like, the trailer is still able to make them feel super menacing. Having discovered the monsters' weakness at the end of the last movie, Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt, Krasinski's actual wife) and her two grown children—Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe)—have a chance to fight back and reverse the apocalypse.

For your own safety, make sure to duct tape your mouth shut before watching the trailer below:

Since Krasinki's character, Lee Abbott, died in the first film, the director is beefing up his cast for the follow-up with Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins), who fans see in both pre- and post-apocalyptic scenes, alongside Djimon Hounsou (Charlie's Angels). Murphy's currently unnamed survivor doesn't seem to hold what's left of humanity in very high regard, and even rebuffs Evelyn's plan to fight for the world they once knew.

"We have the world, so it’s actually the world that’s built. It’s the world, the rules, that idea of the rest of the world is going through this exact same experience,” Krasinski said of the sequel in 2018. “Are there other people that have to survive like this? It’s that idea of living through the set of circumstances, not again in the same way, obviously, but sort of exploring it more. You only got to do it intimately for a small amount of time, so what happens next? ... [Emily] said, ‘But it’s not a sequel, it’s the second book in a series.’ She said, ‘It sounds [like] semantics, but it’s true, it really is. You’re not doing anything that’s like, "Alright I’m gonna take all the things you love and just kinda repeat them but in a different way."' It’s not 'A Quieter Place,' it’s sort of an exploration of getting to live in the circumstances, and I think that that’s really fun."

Adored by both critics and regular audiences alike, the original A Quiet Place brought in over $340 million at the global box office when it debuted in the spring of 2018. The movie currently holds a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and is hailed as a major achievement in the subgenre of "sensory horror" cinema that also includes Don't Breathe and Bird Box.
