Warner Bros. dropped the first skin-crawling trailer for Annabelle Comes Home, the third installment in the horror franchise, during its panel at WonderCon in Anaheim, California.
The film, which brings back the paranormal investigating husband-wife duo of Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the Conjuring films), marks the directorial debut of Gary Dauberman.
He came up with the story with producer James Wan and also wrote the screenplay. Dauberman is known for writing the two modern It movies at Warner Bros. and Paramount's upcoming film version of Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Watch the first trailer now:
In terms of plot, the action kicks off when Annabelle, locked in the Warrens' room of supernatural artifacts, awakens the evil in the objects around her and sets her sights on the couple's young daughter, Judy (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Mckenna Grace).
“Everything you see in here is either haunted or cursed or has been used in some kind of ritualistic practice. Nothin’s a toy," says Ed. If only the kids had listened!
Earlier in the week, Wan (Aquaman) revealed our first glimpse at the film, posting a picture of the titular doll sitting on a dusty shelf in what must be the aforementioned artifact room. Last summer, Dauberman compared the project to Night at the Museum with an obvious horror twist.
Madison Iseman (Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween), Stephen Blackehart (The Belko Experiment), Steve Coulter (The Walking Dead), and Katie Sarife (Supernatural) round out the rest of the cast.
Annabelle Comes Home opens in theaters June 28.
