Chosen One of the Day: Z is for Zombie, Nick Miller’s novel from New Girl

Z is for Zombie is Pepperwood Chronicles’ scribe Nick Miller’s first foray into fiction, one featuring a blurb from friend Winston Bishop: “This is the worst thing I have ever read in my entire life.”

In it, he tackles the inconsistencies of the English language by misspelling the word “rhythm” no less than 38 times! He plays with traditional format by drawing the reader in, creating an interactive experience by including a word search! And then shows us humility when we finally realize… there are no words in the word search. It was a sisyphean task of absurdity. “But you know what,” Winston’s blurb continues, “You finished it. And for that, my friend, I’m proud of you.”

When he was first working on Z is for Zombie, Miller told Bob Day (prior to becoming his eventual father-in-law) that it was a zombie novel, but that really it was “a relationship story” with a “great love story that could be made into a movie.” And he’s not wrong. The zombie and Carol truly have a love story for the ages.

Any comparisons to Twilight should of course be completely disregarded. This is its own thing. You just don’t get it.
