Halloween Kills: Jamie Lee Curtis is a distraught Laurie Strode in first teaser

By Josh Weiss
Halloween Kills

Halloween Kills was just pushed off to October 2021, but Universal Pictures helped soften the blow a little by providing fans with the first bit of teaser footage.

Picking up mere moments after the 2018 movie, the 30-second sequence finds the three Strode women — Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) Karen (Judy Greer), and Allyson (Andi Matichak) — riding away from the burning house in which Michael Myers was trapped. All seems well...until a pair of firetrucks start heading toward the blaze. Laurie becomes distraught, shouting "No!" and "Let it burn!"

Director David Gordon Green (who co-wrote the script with Danny McBride and Scott Teems) and producer John Carpenter addressed the project's pandemic-era postponement in a joint statement on Twitter.

"If we release it in October of this year as planned, we have to face the reality that the film would be consumed in a compromised theatrical experience," it reads. "After weighing our options, we have chosen to push the film's theatrical release by one year ... It is an honor to be working with these characters and spending time in Haddonfield. We look forward to sharing our next chapters with you."

In addition, the statement confirms the return of "legacy characters" from the 1978 original like Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall), Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards), Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens), Leigh Brackett (Charles Cyphers), and Lonnie Elam (Robert Longstreet).

Green, McBride, Curtis, Malek Akkad, Jason Blum, Bill Block, and Ryan Freiman serve as producers.

Halloween Kills slashes its way into theaters Oct. 15, 2021. Universal plans to release the movie in traditional and IMAX formats. It'll be followed by Halloween Ends on Oct. 14, 2022.
